STEWART GILLETT

BUSINESS INFORMATION MANAGER

Stewart joined the news trade industry in 1992, spending 3 years at wholesale before joining Marketforce in 1995, running the Marketing Services department. With the introduction of Quartz in 2003, Stewart was tasked with setting up a new function to concentrate on dealing with the box level data coming into the business. This role has expanded and Stewart's current role of Business Information Manager involves heading up a team of 5 in the Information Development team.

The Information Development team is split into two distinct areas. The first is responsible for the management of Quartz and the second on the delivery of accurate and timely sales and marketing information to the business at both a total market and retail level.

The management of Quartz is wide ranging and involves a number of key tasks, such as ensuring the retail universe is correct, loading box level sales data for all Marketforce titles and issues, maintaining promotional mechanisms and store lists, training users, enhancing the system and providing day to day support on the planning and allocation of titles.

Apart from the box level data that drives the Quartz system the IDT also manage a number of other data streams into the business. These include the Total Market information received from wholesalers, EpoS data from the retailers, ranking reports, range listings information and sales data from the Worldwide wholesaling operation. All this information is utilised by our circulation, retail and wholesale sales teams in order to aid decision-making.

In addition to these two core areas, Stewart and his team are specialist Business Objects report writers and have developed the majority of the reporting now used within the company. In relation to Marketforce information systems Stewart comments:

"Marketforce is a professional company based around excellent systems, sound business processes, and people who can make the most of them. We have a proven track record of investing in our systems and I am sure that this has been a major factor in our continued ability to attract new publisher clients."
